We Are Sifil AFC

Originally founded in 1963 under the name of Newport Civil Service Football Club, the football club has been part of the fabric of the Bettws estate ever since the Civil Sports & Recreation ground was established.

The Senior first team has enjoyed varied successes over the years, playing in the Newport & District league in its formative years, then climbing up through the FAW pyramid structure to reach the Welsh leagues between 2008 & 2015. In more recent years, the Senior 1st team have been a long-standing occupant of the Gwent County Premier league, whilst the 2nd side play in the Newport & District League.

Since 2013, the clubs Mini & Junior section has grown significantly to the point of having nearly 300  registered under 18s playing across 20 teams.

At the end of season 2023/24, Newport Civil Service was re-branded and re-named, Sifil AFC, under a new management committee. The new name is the Welsh version of Civil (and  pronounced the same) which honours the history and legacy of the club and it’s home. However, the name change signifies the new beginning for the club and creates a strong identity with the ambitions to build a strong community and sports facility, which has a series of sports teams playing under one unified banner, across all ages, genders and abilities.

Youth & Junior Football

We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all children between the ages of 4 and 18 to develop their football skills, whilst also promoting teamwork, responsibility, respect for others and general good behaviour.

Each team has at least one Welsh FA accredited coach, and most have several coaches who have attained their Welsh FA Football Leaders Awards (and some have higher coaching awards).

We also have a series of Code of Conduct, as well as our Safeguarding policy and series of consent forms to ensure that we're applying practical well-being and safety measures for our young people, coaches and spectators

Official Sifil AFC club statement

It is with a mixture of gratitude and sadness that we announce Mathew Palmer (affectionately known to us all as “Cabbage”) has, by mutual consent, decided to step down from his role as manager. After more than 20 years of dedicated service to both Newport Civil Service AFC and its new incarnation of Sifil AFC, Cabbage’s impact on our club cannot be overstated. His passion, commitment, and leadership have been the backbone of this team for two decades.
